Bicycle Lanes

The City of Toronto is reviewing possible cycling routes in Willowdale.
Councillor Filion has suggested that the service roads East and West of Yonge Street would be good North and South routes.  Our office would welcome suggestions from cyclists in the area, please send us your suggestions by filing out the form on the Contact Us page. We look forward to hearing from you.

Environmental Initiatives

Environment Day is always a huge success in Willowdale.  Hundreds of residents come out to the event to dispose of unwanted household items, pick up free Green Bins and Kitchen Containers, donate items, and get top quality compost for the year’s gardening season.  Many residents have expressed great interest in additional environmental initiatives and events.  To develop these, we want to know what types of environment initiatives you would like to see take place in Willowdale.  What environment friendly workshops would you and your family like to attend?  What products would you like to know more about?  Your feedback is welcome. Please send us your suggestions by filing out the form on the Contact Us page.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Community Garden

One of the projects that was successful this past year is the Parkview Community Garden.  This large community garden is located adjacent to the historical John McKenzie House at 34 Parkview Avenue.  The project was funded through the City of Toronto's Clean and Beautiful initiative, which successfully renews public spaces with the participation of the community. The community garden was planted in the summer of 2009 and fulfilled it's mission to produce healthy, locally grown food for the Willowdale community.  Community volunteers are still needed for upkeep of this beautiful garden, and to plan for the 2010 growing season.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact our office, or visit the official website of the Parkview Community Garden at www.parkviewneighbourhoodgarden.org.

Ten Thousand Villages Willowdale Holiday Festival

A big thank you to all members of the community who came out to support the first annual Ten Thousand Villages Willowdale Holiday Festival.  The event was an incredible success, raising the remarkable amount of $19,000 in one day of sales.  If you would like to be part of the planning committee for any future Holiday Festivals in Willowdale, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page.

Transit City

Transit City is an initiative to build new light rail lines across the City of Toronto, including the Etobicoke-Finch Light Rail Plan which will run through Ward 23 along Finch Avenue West. For more details on the plan, click here.
