Toronto's program which makes it easier for restaurants to set up outdoor tables on sidewalks and curb lanes will become permanent under a plan adopted by the city's Executive Committee this week. CafeTO was brought in as a way to help restaurants struggling with indoor restrictions during the pandemic but became so popular that there is strong support to extend it, even as restrictions ease.
A recent city survey of 10,000 residents found 91% support for the program.
The plan going to Council on November 9 also encourages its extension outside of the downtown. In Willowdale, the newly-formed BIA initiated the program on Yonge Street between Sheppard and Finch.
