Helping Willowdale Welcome Centre Keep People Warm

This month's weather has been brutal for those without homes. The Willowdale Welcome Centre at 5800 Yonge is temporarily a homeless shelter (until the property is redeveloped) and currently one of only three City warming centres for those who urgently need to get out of the cold.

Since it opened in late 2019, initially as a refugee shelter, the Welcome Centre has been greatly assisted by donations from caring community members and groups. With the number of people it serves increasing during the current cold snap, the Centre is in need of the following items:

  • New underwear and socks for men and women

  • Gently used winter boots and other footwear

  • Packaged snacks including candy, chips, soda and chocolate

  • Gift cards for Netflix, Tim Hortons, Dollarama, grocery stores and more

For anyone who wishes to make a donation, curb-side drop-off is available at 5800 Yonge St., via the front doors. For more information about making a donation or about other ways to support the Willowdale Welcome Centre, email Ryan Evershed at ryan.evershed@homesfirst.on.ca or call 647-988-2979.
