John says goodbye to Joe Cressy, Kristyn Wong-Tam

Toronto City Council is losing two of its brightest, most influential and hardest-working members this month with the resignation of Kristyn Wong-Tam and Joe Cressy.

Kristyn, who has been a tireless and effective champion on such issues as affordable housing, gender equity and the rights of the LGBTQ community, is leaving to run for the NDP in the upcoming provincial election.

Joe, seen as a future mayor by many City Hall observers - me included - left to accept a position as vice-president with George Brown College. Of the hundreds of politicians I have worked with over the past 40 years, there are none with greater natural skills or who have selflessly put those skills to better use for the public good. For the past four years, he has been an extraordinarily effective Chair of the Board of Health, at first successfully fighting drastic provincial government cuts to Public Health and then leading us through the pandemic.

I will miss them both as councillors and as friends.
