The Federal government is paying for COVID research projects performed by Toronto colleges and universities. The program was announced Tuesday by Willowdale MP Ali Ehsassi, and connects the expertise of Toronto’s post-secondary institutions to the City’s research needs. The new partnership model allows the City to ask for research to help support the Toronto’s COVID-19 recovery. Some of these projects include:
The association between socio-demographic characteristics and COVID-19 incidence and severity
Telework – GHG Emission Impacts & Employee Performance
Low-cost decontamination process for respirators and disposable N95 masks
Ambient air quality impacts from COVID-19
Innovations in tax filing to assist vulnerable residents in accessing valuable income tax benefits such as means-tested housing or child care fee subsidies
The research projects are being funded by the City and Mitacs, a national, not-for-profit organization that fosters growth and innovation, and is funded by the federal, provincial, and territorial governments.
