From the morning of December 4 to the evening of December 14, the subway will be closed between Sheppard-Yonge and Finch stations so that the TTC can perform signal upgrades and asbestos removal from a section of subway tunnel just north of North York Centre station. The work that’s being done over these 10 days is what would normally be accomplished over two and a half years’ worth of nightly closures.
To service these stations, shuttle busses will be deployed between Sheppard and Finch Stations. John has had multiple conversations with TTC staff to ensure that people are at least as safe while traveling on shuttle busses as they would be if the subway was running.
Specifically, the TTC will have ambassadors handing out masks at the stations, in case anyone doesn’t have one. John has also asked the TTC to have enough shuttle bus capacity so that passengers do not experience conditions that are any more crowded than if the subway was running.
During these 10 days, we are hoping that good weather will encourage those who are able to walk to or from Sheppard to do so.
Closures this weekend
If you’re headed south on the subway this weekend, be advised that there will be no subway service on Line 1 between Lawrence and St. Clair stations on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29. This work is to accommodate ongoing Eglinton Crosstown construction. Shuttle buses will operate throughout the closure.
