As we transition into spring, a number of large-scale reconstruction, repair and maintenance projects are scheduled to begin in our community. Residents will be particularly interested in some of the projects that will cause some traffic delays.
As the full reconstruction of Yonge Street (Sheppard to Finch) has been pushed back to allow for the REimagine Yonge project to come back to Council this year, a temporary resurfacing project will get underway in early October to address the badly deteriorating conditions until a proper reconstruction can be addressed in 3-5 years. John has worked extensively with staff reduce the timeline for construction and disruption – now expected to run 3-4 weeks. As a result of this work, John has also been successful in saving close to $1-million in construction costs for the project.
A full reconstruction of Willowdale Ave (Empress to Finch) is scheduled in August and September. To accommodate curb, sidewalk and road base replacement, WiIllowdale Ave will be closed to traffic flow going north, throughout the entirety of the project. Southbound traffic flow will remain open. Additional consultation on this project is currently being scheduled.
Enbridge will be reinforcing a gas pipeline below Bathurst Street (from Steeles to Betty Ann Drive), to improve service for residents in the area. The anticipated construction timeline is May to December. Those travelling on Bathurst Street should expect delays, as portions of the street will closed throughout the duration of the project.
While lane closures for construction is never welcome news, ongoing investment in our local infrastructure remains a critical need. John will continue to work with City departments to minimize disruption and to push staff to coordinate any closures as much as possible.
