Yonge North Planning Study – May 22

For several years the City of Toronto has been reviewing its Official Plan for the Yonge Street area between Finch and Steeles.  Not everyone has agreed with John’s vision to focus on building a complete neighbourhood, with community facilities, schools and places to work and shop. He is proposing a network of bicycle paths and pedestrian connections, with lots of new parkland. John believes in restricting tall buildings to sites with subway stations – and to make any increased density conditional on subway construction.

With subway plans for the area now advancing, completing this plan has returned as a high priority.  City Planning staff have organized a Community Consultation Meeting for Wednesday, May 22 from 7 – 9 PM at Newtonbrook Secondary School Cafeteria (155 Hilda Ave).  They would like to hear your views on issues such as Traffic Management, redevelopment boundaries, the size and height of buildings, school capacity, parks, child care and recreational facilities.  If you share John’s vision for a livable neighbourhood, we encourage you to participate.
